A Year at Castle Farm - Watch our video!

Behind the Scenes of Our Busy Seasons

There’s more to farm life than Lavender fields and summer sunshine — and we’re excited to share a glimpse of it with you.

We’ve put together a short film that follows our hardworking team through the seasons here at Castle Farm, nestled in the beautiful Darenth Valley. From the first light of spring to the golden tones of harvest, this video captures the energy, dedication, and quiet rhythms of farm life that keep everything growing.

🎥 Watch the Video: "Working Around Castle Farm"

From frosty mornings to golden harvests, this short film offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the dedication, care, and hustle that keeps the farm thriving all year round. It’s a celebration of our land, our people, and the passion that drives everything we grow.

But while you’re watching, keep an eye out for some of the crops and plants we’re especially proud to grow — each with a story of its own.

🌿 What We Grow: A Few Things You Might Not Know

  • Hops
Those tall, leafy vines you see? That’s hops — essential for brewing beer. But did you know hops are part of the cannabis family? Long before IPAs, hops were valued for their natural sedative properties, used in our teas and Sleepy Scent range.
  • Barley
A humble-looking grain with a mighty legacy. Barley has been grown for over 10,000 years — used in ancient rituals, baked into breads, and malted for beer and whisky. It’s still a core crop today, valued for both its tradition and versatility.
  • Norfolk Royal Apples
These blush-red apples are a rare English variety, first discovered in Norfolk in the early 20th century. Sweet, crisp, and full of old-fashioned flavour, they’re now grown in only a few orchards — including our own — and are a real local treasure you won’t find on typical supermarket shelves.
  • The Darenth Valley
Our farm is set in the heart of this ancient valley, known for its fertile chalk soils and farming history that dates back to the Romans. Just 20 miles from central London, the Darenth Valley is still home to traditional agriculture, wildlife corridors, and a tight-knit rural community.

🌸 Come and Explore it for Yourself

There's nothing quite like walking through rows of fragrant lavender in full bloom, learning how it's harvested and distilled into oil right here on the farm. Our Guided Lavender Tours in summer are a sensory highlight — and a chance to learn all about this iconic crop from the people who grow it.

And beyond the lavender season, you can join one of our seasonal Farm Tours, where we share insights into everything from apple harvesting to hop picking, and how we manage the land throughout the year.

Whether you’re a long-time visitor or discovering Castle Farm for the first time, we hope this video gives you a feel for the care and connection behind everything we do — and the land we’re proud to call home.

🧑‍🌾 Thanks for watching, and we hope to see you down on the farm soon!
