The Lavender at Castle Farm usually begins bloom in mid / late June through until late July when we harvest the flowers for their precious Lavender Essential Oil.

We recommend checking our website or socials for live updates.

Exact flowering dates every year depend on the weather in the lead up to summer.

We offer various ways for you to experience the Lavender Fields during flowering season.  Lavender Field Walks, Guided Lavender Tours, Lavender Picnics and various workshops.

Our Lavender Field Walks give you free time to wander amongst the rows, take photos, sit of the lavender bench and enjoy the beautiful views of the valley. We recommend one hour for this event. No Picnics are allowed in this field. Dogs are welcome in Lavender Field Walk events.

Our Lavender BYO Picnic events give you two and a half hours in the field, and you are welcome to bring your own picnic (and picnic rug / chairs etc). You may also buy snacks and drinks in the field at the Picnic Kiosks. You are welcome to wander amongst the rows, take photos and sit on the lavender bench to enjoy the lovely views. There is also marquee cover offered in this field, and we set a limit on the number of tickets per Picnic session, giving you more of an opportunity to get lovely ‘people free’ background in your photos. Dogs are NOT allowed in the Lavender Picnic events.

You are welcome to select an Adult (16+), Children’s (3 - 15) or free Infants tickets (0 – 2).

These options give you access to the Lavender Field during your booked time. You can bring your own picnic plus also purchase drinks and snacks from our kiosks.

However, if you wanted to UPGRADE your experience, you may choose from the following options!

Yes, access to the lavender fields is only permitted if you have a ticket for one of our events. This helps us preserve the beauty of the farm and ensure a safe, relaxed environment for all.

Of course, if you do not wish to purchase a ticket for an event you can enjoy the beautiful views of the valley from the farm shop or the public footpaths which cross the farm.

We always recommend booking in advance, via our website. However, if you are unable to do this, we will always do our best to accommodate you on the day.
Unfortunately, during busy periods, this may not always be possible.

Castle Farm event tickets are non-refundable. Please check you can attend on your chosen date before you

For this year only, included in your ticket is access to our Lavender Walks Field, of which you are welcome to visit at your leisure, on the same day as your Guided Lavender Tour.

Bring Your Own Picnic and set up in our spectacular Ladybird Lavender Field. Take in the scent of this spectacular Lavender variety - unique to Castle Farm over a 2.5 hour event.

Marquee shade / shelter provided. Please bring picnic rugs, or even chairs to make yourself comfortable.

Refreshments will be available to purchase, including alcohol from our pop-up bar!

Join us in our Folgate Lavender, and late flowering Lavandin Field and get a photo on the Lavender Bench. Wander amongst fragrant flowers and take in the beautiful views across the Darenth Valley (5 acre field).

Recommended time 1 hour.

Light refreshments will be available to purchase, however, it is not possible to picnic in this field.

Castle Farm offers free entry to any of our Lavender Events for, up to, two carers or essential companions when accompanying someone with a disability. The disabled person will still need to pay for entry.

Carers do not need a ticket. All of our staff are trained to allow entry when presented with proof of disability at the gate.

We accept the Access card with the essential companion (+1 or +2) symbol shown. Alternatively, the disabled person can bring proof of eligibility in the form of their DLA or PIP documentation, which will allow one free carer ticket.

We have accessible parking available close to the entrance for each event if you should need it. Please tell staff on arrival if you wish to be directed to accessible parking.

Yes, we have many accessible options at our Lavender events.

Blue Badge parking is available close to the farm shop, and also close to the entrances of each of our events – just ask the parking assistants when you arrive.

Our Lavender Picnic events and Lavender Walks event are attended by many people with wheelchairs – although, be aware that the entrances and field margins are on mown grass – not solid concrete.

The Picnics field is particularly well suited as there is a gentle sloping field with a wide grass path running right out into the middle of the Lavender rows.

In the Lavender Walks field it is not possible to get a wheelchair between the oldest Lavender rows (due to the size of the plants), but there are wide grass margins by the side of the Lavender, and also a mown grass path goes up to a Lavender Bench within the newly planted Lavender area in the Walks field.

Our Guided Lavender Tours cover approximately 500m of distance – some of this is on concrete, some on grass areas with a small slope entrance to one of the fields.

We have an Accessible toilet on site – please ask one of the team and they can show you.

We love dogs here at Castle Farm and they are very welcome on site on a lead, and at our 'Guided Distillery & Field Tours' & 'Lavender Walks' Events. 

Due to the foods we stock, dogs are not permitted inside our main farm shop or at our Lavender Picnic event or Workshops, unless a registered Guide Dog or registered Assistance Dog.

Picnics are only permitted at our BYO Lavender Picnic Events and are NOT allowed on any other areas of the farm, including our car parks.

All of our experiences are all weather events and will go ahead come rain or shine! In the Lavender Picnic Field we have large marquees which offer cover in the event of rain or shelter if it is sunny. In the Lavender Walks field, we have a large gazebo oat the bottom of the field, but recommend umbrellas if it’s raining (the Lavender can be particularly fragrant in the rain!). On our Guided Lavender Tours, we have covered gazebos in the Lavender Fields for when the guide is talking to the group, however the walk over to the distillery is not under cover.

Yes, free on-site parking is available. Please follow signs and staff instructions on arrival.

Car parking is limited however, so it is not possible to leave your car at Castle Farm if you are heading off for a walk.

Please use the car parking facilities at Lullingstone Country Park.

No, but Coffee Cart is open Tuesday-Sunday serving takeaway barista
coffees, teas and hot chocolate, as well other cold drinks, snacks and ice creams. 

Unfortunately, as we are a busy working farm with a lot of farm machinery, it is not possible to have a picnic anywhere on the farm.
Our BYO Lavender Picnic events in Summer are pre-ticketed and only available in late June / July, in allocated field spaces.

Fresh beef arrives in shop once a month. Cuts can be preordered and, because the beef is vacuum packed, it retains its flavour even when frozen. Please
telephone to place an order, or pop into the Farm Shop to see what we have available.

The first Hop Bines start to mature in mid-August and we finish cropping them early-mid September, before they start to become worn by autumn wind and rain.

Throughout the rest of the year, (until sold out!) only the dried hop bines are available.

Absolutely. If you wish to collect a hop from the shop please call us for prices and to reserve in advance.

A hop bine is composed of two or three stems that have grown and twisted up a long central string.

Fresh hop bines are supple and can be easily draped and twined into position and left to dry out naturally. Hanging the cut bines is easy – simply hook the stems or string over a nail. The bines are very light when dry so weight is not a problem. All Hop Bine orders are sent out with full hanging instructions.

Dried Hop Bines will need conditioning before arranging in position, conditioning instructions will be sent with any online orders or available in the shop if collecting.

Hop plants are available as bare rooted stock for mail order despatch, or as potted plants from the Farm Shop. Plants are available from December through until early Spring. It is best to plant your hops when they are dormant throughout the Winter, and then you will see the shoots starting to appear as the ground warms up in Springtime.

Yes. Hops will survive a range of temperatures and ground conditions including prolonged winters. Hop plants are, however, sensitive to day length, meaning they will only grow and flower with commercial success within certain latitudes around the globe – but this includes northern and central Europe.

Usually, the first or second weekend of September. Ripening is dependent on the weather, and we will only open the orchards when the fruit are perfectly ready for picking.
